Mike is a Kaiwhakairo (Māori carver) of Ngāpuhi iwi descent, with English and Scottish heritage. Based in Whangaparāoa, Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland), he brings a diverse background in music, arboriculture, and landscaping to his carving practice.

Mike's work is driven by a desire to reconnect with his indigeneity and to support others on similar journeys of cultural rediscovery. His practice explores whakapapa, whenua, and identity, grounded in both tradition and lived experience.

Alongside his artistic practice, Mike is an active Kaiako Whakairo, sharing knowledge through community, marae, and school-based programmes. Since 2023, he has facilitated various toi Māori programmes and wānanga for individuals and schools and the wider community.
